The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is an entrance test which is conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) in order to assess the candidatesanalytical, writing, quantitative, verbal and reading skills. These skills are put to test in order to grant admission to the management programmes such as MBA.
The number of Indians taking the test hit an all time high back in 2013, the same year when the number of applicants taking the CAT hit a seven year low. As per The Economic Times report, the number of students taking the GMAT from India in 2013 was 22,878 which was a 25 per cent increase from the 2010 numbers. On the other hand the CAT takers have been declined by four per cent since 2010. The main reason behind this change is the fact that more than anything taking the GMAT will give the candidate to apply to global schools.
All this has resulted in the increase in the number of Indian B-Schools accepting the GMATscore. There are some 240 Indian management programmes that accept the GMAT score.
